Expeditions

Bedstone has developed a great reputation for outdoor pursuits and has, for many years, had an expedition society with membership exclusively from those in the fifth and sixth form. During the summer holidays four-week expeditions have taken place to destinations such as North Iceland and East Greenland and the society has received considerable accolades particularly from the Young Explorer’s Trust and the Royal Geographical Society from whom the expeditions of the society have won awards and funding. The next expedition, planned for July 2011, will be in conjunction with World Challenge and is an expedition to Siberia.

Most scholars undertake the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award in the fourth form (Y10) and the more hardy follow that up with the Gold Award in the sixth form. The expedition experience and skills that are gained here serve those who are in the expedition society well as they prepare for the more arduous tasks ahead.
