A level and BTEC students visit the Worcester Warriors
Miss Ross took a group of A Level and BTEC students to visit the Worcester Warriors at their Sixways stadium. Worcester Warriors are a rugby union club who play in the English Premiership, it was a fantastic opportunity for students to visit a professional team. They visited to find out how performance analysis is used in elite sport. The aim of the trip was to bring to life some of the analysis techniques they have looked at in lessons and to gain an insight in to how these techniques benefit professional athletes.
On arrival at the stadium they were met by System Performance Analyst Blair Kingsland who was really welcoming. Blair was very knowledgeable and gave expert advice to the students who had many questions prepared for him throughout their visit. In the seminar room Blair presented various ways of analysis and the students were fully involved trying out some manual analysis. First team players Marco Mama and Jackson Willison then gave up some of their time to speak to the students. Some of the boys asked excellent questions about their rugby career and discussed how analysis has benefited them.
Once the analysis section of the visit had finished Blair invited the students on a stadium tour. This was a fantastic opportunity which was enjoyed by the whole group. The students particularly enjoyed being able to go inside the elite gym and out on to the stadium pitch.
We are very grateful to Blair and everyone at the Worcester Warriors for their time and efforts. It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip for all. After such a great insight in to this area we hope there will be some analysis questions on the Exam papers this summer.
